1) Where can I get a recycle bin and is there a fee? In Broome County, if you are a customer you can obtain recycling bins from either our office on Old Vestal Rd. or you can contact the Broome County Landfill at (607) 763-4450 for hours when you can pick up a bin. Currently there is no fee for bins in Broome County. In Tioga County bins can be obtained by contacting the Barton Transfer Station 1-800-927-2323. They can arrange to have your recycle bin delivered to you. The first bin is provided for free and each additional bin is $5. Replacement bins for rental properties are also $5.
2) What is recyclable in my county? If you need a recycling brochure for your county you can either contact our office at (607) 797-5277 and request one be sent to you...or you can go to the county webpage for Broome County and print it off. Broom County, NY Solid Waste is the address for the brochure. In Tioga County you can get a copy on their site at Tioga County, NY Solid Waste
3) Is there an additional fee for the recycling pick up? No there is no additional fee for recycling. In Broome County it is included with the cost of the service. YOU MUST BE A CUSTOMER TO BE PICKED UP! In Tioga County the cost of recycling is included in your taxes. No matter how you dispose of your trash, the recycling will be picked up by agents of the county in Tioga.
4) Where does my recycling go and how is it reused? All our recycling is taken to a recycling center and sorted. From there it is shipped on to other companies for reprocessing into new forms and straight reuse in a new way. Feel free to contact your local recycling center for more information.
5) Where can I take large amounts of recyclables myself? In Broome County you can take them to Broome Recycling on Broad Ave. ph# (607) 724-3805 or to the Broome County Landfill ph# (607) 763-4450. Other recycling centers may be found in your local phone listings. For Tioga County you can take it to Barton Transfer Station ph# 1-800-927-2323 or to Southern Tier Recyclers ph# (607) 687-6710. We can take some recycling at our yard on Old Vestal Rd. Please contact the office before you bring it to us just to be sure there is still room available for the day.
6) What do I do with my recycle bin when I move? The bins belong to your county solid waste department. When you move they recommend that you leave the bins at the house for the next person. There is no need to return them directly to the county just leave them at the property.
7) Is there electronic recycling?
IMPORTANT!- Due to changes in NY State Laws we are no longer able to take electronics in the trash at the curb. Any electronics put out with the normal trash will be left.
Residential customers if you want your electronics picked up at the curb we will now do a special pickup for $5.00 per item. Please contact the office for more information or to arrange a pickup appointment.
Commercial accounts please contact the office at (607)797-5277 to arrange for a pickup.
You can still bring in your items to our office at 3051 Old Vestal Rd. in Vestal Between 7:30 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday.This service is FREE! (the only exception is wood encased consol TVs, they cost is $2.00 per item)You need only to stop in the office and we will direct you to the drop off area. Please have a count of your items when you come in. You do not have to be a customer to take advantage of this drop off service!
Accepted items include: computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, fax machines, laptops, radios, stereos, modems, TVs, Vcr/DVDs, microwaves, cell phones, pagers, hand held games, GPS units, ect. please check with the office if you have a questionable item.
**We cannot accept countertop appliances, answering machines, large appliances,vacuums, dehumidifiers, airconditioners for electronic recycling. They can however be brought to our yard for regular recycling. A small fee may apply.
Electronics can also be recycled by taking them to the Broome County Landfill http://www.gobroomecounty.com/solidwaste/hazwaste). Both Broome and Tioga county residents can utilize the facility. In Tioga County, Southern Tier Recycling also takes in electronics for recycling. You can call them at (607) 687-6710 for their hours of operation and any fees involved with the electronics disposal.
